He hated it. So much so that he couldn’t stand It for the shortest period of time. It was almost like a monster eating him up. Slow and steady, like an insect it would creep out of nowhere and linger around him for eternity. Making him almost claustrophobic with it’s presence. Like a rope tied around his neck, forbidding him to speak anything. All he could do was shouting in vain, hoping that someone would take it away from him. It was in It’s presence that the woman that he had loved so much had left him. It reminded him of those exam halls sitting inside which all he could ever do was staring at the empty answer sheet that he always submitted! Bringing back pathetic memories of the Conferences where he tried so hard to elicit some response from the other side. Or the umpteen attempts at making his audience laugh, failing most of the time.
She loved it. So much so that it was like a part of her. She was used to it, like the chirping of birds, the presence of the wind. She did not find it awkward. It was her comrade that went with her wherever she went and never betrayed her. She could use it whenever she needed It. It was a known territory which she had ventured in and out of with her own convenience. Often in It’s presence, she would just capture every moment of her meetings with the one that she loved. It reminded her of the beautiful night that she had spent gazing at the stars in the sky. It re-assured her of the great understanding she had with the people who mattered to her. It helped her convey more than any number of words could. It gave her the required refuge to just stop and Think Everything and sometimes, Think Nothing.
It was Silence…
P.S. This post is a random attempt to try and bring out some out of the innumerable perspectives of Silence. Though I can't say I have succeeded at it entirely, but I am hoping that the readers would contribute their share of experiences, perspectives etc! :)
P.P.S. Half an hour for the New Year 2011. Cannot thank 2010 enough for giving so much that I could never imagine in the wildest of dreams! :)
Oh, and you might want to check this out!
nyccccc 1 girlie! "d power of silence" gentle on d one who appreciate it n destructive 2 dose who try 2 wade thru it.....gud job!
ReplyDelete@Prachi - Your comment beautifully summarizes a very important aspect of Silence! :)
ReplyDelete^^ Destructive!? i don't think you are looking at the right angle here. "Those who wade through it" is a gross misappropriation of an entire bunch that was portrayed in the first paragraph. There are none that WADE through "it" per-se. You can be overwhelmed by it, you can bear it, or fight it, i fail to see how it still destroys. It can only create an atmosphere conducive to introspect and self-interrogate. Even this is hardly destructive. Its just not a happy thing for some, and clears muddled up things for others. So the "destructive" opinion comes off to me as a perverse one.
ReplyDelete@Varevarao - "Those who wade through it" is in noway related to the bunch portrayed in the first paragraph. It's just another aspect to the topic of discussion, which I do seem to have left out.
ReplyDeleteLike the post tries to point out, there are innumerable perspectives to the same thing. Hence, silence as a destroyer ain't very hard to imagine or Accept.
I am not saying that You are Wrong here. But, it would be great if you tried to see that perhaps you're not the only one who is Right! :P
P.S. Thanks for pointing out another aspect to the topic of discussion!
