Today, I shall do what women are considered to be best at. To put it in more sophisticated words, I shall express my utter discontent towards the Indian Education System. Though I fail to see any Systematic order in constant strikes, absence of teachers/students from classrooms, exam paper leakages, mediocre infrastructure and ill-motivated classrooms, for the best interests of all I shall keep that out of the discussion. I wonder why we even call it “Education”, when all that we go through is just rigorous training to work as clerks or “Managers” under the bosses of “hefty package” Companies! Whatever happened to the formal definition of education as “a process to develop mentally, morally or aesthetically”?
Though I don’t have many memories of classrooms (considering the lullaby that my teachers religiously sang for us in most of the classes), the fondest ones are those of the teachers ranting about how the syllabus needed to be finished (I say finished, not “completed”) before exams. Teaching took place at the speed of light, leaving no scope for interaction. Somehow, from the beginning we are conditioned to not ask questions (if you ask a question, you did not understand which means either you are dumb or you weren’t paying attention, too bad!). After years of being accustomed to the same rote-learning process, we as students have forgotten that there really is life beyond course books and it’s not all about getting marks. Or perhaps, forgotten is the wrong word here, we have never “learnt” this.
I am not completely blind to the current efforts at Interactive classrooms through facilities such as Smart Boards, but I so wish our teachers were “trained” in using them! No point beating around the bush. To put it in the least possible words, it feels like Sheep!
But, this sheep here has a few suggestions for those in power. How about reducing the class room syllabus and paying our teachers better? That way, students get more time to grasp what they are “learning” by not just reading the text-books but actually going out and exploring the practicality of theoretical concepts! I do not overlook the fact that the syllabus Is continuously being revised to make it “practically more applicable” in real life situation. But, dear Education Minister, the students can only practically apply it to their lives once they have the time to understand the pearls of wisdom Besides, better salaries for teachers would motivate them to not only enjoy their otherwise mundane job of ranting about how the syllabus needs to be covered up but also teach in a more comprehensive manner!
We talk of On-The-Job training in the corporate sector, how about training the trainers? I am sure they could do with a lesson or two regarding the usage of Interactive Boards and using Innovative methods of teaching. While the current reforms in the Examination pattern are really quite commendable, the much debated CCE system will fall flat on it’s face if the schools are not provided with the right infrastructure and time space for the system to really work for the benefit of the students. While it is just a grand opening to an era of knowledge based on learning and not rote learning, I wonder how much good it would do to students wishing to get into Delhi University Colleges that still look for the mark sheet of the Board Exams. Perhaps entrance examinations for DU colleges would not be a bad idea after all.
Perhaps with a little positive reforms here and there, we would feel less like sheep and more like Students!
Namaste my sister Aks. I am very pleased you stopped by my site. I look forward to being entertained by your thoughts, feelings and emotions.
ReplyDeleteIf you research the origins and structure of the education system you will notice a continued effort to dumb down the children of the world. Moreover the entire system is a function of the Illuminati power elite corporate structure. The overall desire is to have a working force which functions well by meeting corporate needs but is incapable of self determination by discovery.
Teachers are trained to strictly enforce a methodology of rote learning enforced by an archaic grading structure. The child, his/her parents and society alike tie the worth of the child to the grades achieved.
The education system rapes children of free thought and critical analysis. Couple this with neural toxins deliberately placed in our water, food and air and it is no wonder children of today feel cheated.
The education system in place can never be fixed from within. The reason for this is because the powers that be want it to reflect exactly what reflects. Moreover, the system is producing an obedient working force enslaved by the very ignorance the elite promote.
There is hope my sister, it comes in the form of unconditional love and unity. Humanity is evolving toward unity consciousness. The signs of enlightenment are everywhere. We will overwhelm the beast with love. Search your heart for all fear and judgment, in it's stead find acceptance, unconditional love of all and unity.
Aks is Christopher, Christopher is Aks, we are one eternal being.
In Lak' esh my sister Aks, love is all there is...
Yes Christopher, very rightly put. Historically, education has indeed promoted Sheep Mentality, as I call it.
ReplyDeleteBut, here I would like to mention the Gurukul system of Education that was followed in India a few centuries ago. Agreed it had its own glitches and perhaps we would never imagine education today to be so "formalized". But, there are a lesson or two that we can learn from there.
The basic lesson being:- Respecting the Individuality of each person, at the same time working as a group to create something valuable. :)
Needless to say, I was profoundly impressed by your Thoughts on your own Blog and here!
