I wish I was sixteen again

I wish I was sixteen again I would still believe in love The sweet nothings whispered to me would still seem true And promises of living together forever could still be kept I wish I was sixteen again I would still have it all figured out Love wouldn't be so confusing And people not so demanding I wish I was sixteen again I would still like emotions Little things would still make me happy And giving to others would come naturally I wish I was sixteen again I would still not know hurt Every new person would be a new friend And sharing my fears would come easy I wish I was sixteen again I would still know what I want Life would still be about opportunities instead of choices And knowing what I want would be enough for me to have it I wish I was sixteen again I could still wait for myself to grow up

Waking Dreams

Waking Dream I Amongst the thousand waking dreams, There is a favorite I have, In that dream I see, You and I, We are the sailors of the night, You, the navigator of our crescent ship, I, your faithful companion. Together, we sail through the night sky, There is no end, For everything moves around in a circle, The circle I call equilibrium. As we pass the stars, I notice a tiara of stars around my head. Amazed, I look up at you, And I see you smiling, The smile that says, “It’s a gift from me, keep it!” We move ahead, Determined to find our destination, Our love drives our determination, And belief in each other drives us to move ahead. We reach Saturn, Together, we glide over its rings, You hold my hand tight, And I know you will always be there for me. My white gown now shines With the subtle hues of the rings. I kiss you on your cheek and thank you for the gift! Our journey through the night, Is filled with love, h...

The Tranquil (re)Treat

Only if you were in heaven would the clouds come to wish you Good morning as soon as you open the windows to your room. Or, if you are too lazy to go to heaven, you could take the 14 hour train journey from Delhi to The Misty Mountains Retreat in Jhaltola, Uttarakhand, with a stoppage at Kathgodam. Talking from experience, you get the same felling! I visited this retreat with a huge group of friends and was taken aback by the warmth of the staff, in complete contrast to the cool ambience of the place! This retreat is a quintessence of tranquility. The Misty Mountains Retreat offers you a perfect view of the mighty Himalayas on one side and the forests on the other. On days when you are very lucky, you can spot a leopard on the rocks near the retreat. An offbeat location, the retreat is a perfect getaway from the hustle bustle of the daily life. As you walk through the dining hall from your cottage, towards the innovatively designed auditoriu...

Closure?

“Sometimes, I wish going through life was as easy as reading a book. You moved from one chapter of your life to the other by just a flip of the page and were welcomed by a bold, italicized heading proclaiming “New Chapter”.’ Aanya yawned at this last thought of the day as she went to bed after trying to call her (ex) boyfriend for hours in vain. Like everything else she was not sure about why she wanted to talk. No particular reason, as usual. You don’t need a reason to talk to your “friends”, do you? And that’s what they were now, friends. It isn’t supposed to bother her that he did not answer her call, or that he was almost never there when she really needed a friend, even though that evening he had told her with eyes filled with tears that he would “always be there” for her “whether she wanted it or not”. And now that she wanted the presence of just someone who would listen to her, he was not there. Oh, but then she has other friends, oth...

Slumber

A flash of Golden light, That woke me up from the slumber of the previous night: The yielding touch of white fluffy cotton pillows, The sun shining bright with a tinge of red, The mellow sounds of water flowing from the tap, And the morning breeze whispering in my ears, An arm slung over the waist as if protecting, Fatigued body unwilling to stand, A million fast cars, And the careful knock at the door. Faint orange memories of beautiful lands visited, The leaves cracking beneath the feet, The familiar sounds of the evening chirps of birds, And the spotted brown barks of the trees, A hand held with the firmness of belief, Tireless feet walking towards no particular destination, A million scornful eyes, And the pink laughter of children playing around. The violet night blanket, The bright glittering street lights, The ocher sand tickling the feet as it washes away, An arm wrapped around with a caressing touch, An uphill walk in the blue pajamas, A million laughing lips, And the green s...

"Why so late, Solitary Lass?"

It is not the same feeling tonight. No, it is not the same happiness that I feel in my solitude shared with that girl who comes on her terrace for a walk every night. Tonight there is a feeling of eager anticipation; of her arrival. She should be here any moment, and then it would be the same. The same joy that comes from knowing you have a confident who shares the same secret as you. That is how it is every night. She walks up to her terrace – her stage lit by the silver beams. She is always performing. Sometimes she dances to the mellow tunes of the few songs that she loves to hear. Her movements are not those of a trained dancer. No, she is not a dancer. She just moves to the music, celebrating each tune, each word of the lyrics. There is no lamentation, only celebration in her movements. Sometimes, she just walks to and fro the length of the terrace, deep in thoughts. Those thoughts they reach me in clear words, as if they are directed only towards me. Those juvenile plans of sav...

Celebrating Moments

So you don’t know why it’s happening? And it is really quite bothering? Those confused remarks, And those long meaningless talks! You don’t spend time together, And you don’t really know each other! You don’t know where it is going, Or is it just the wind blowing? You have always been unlucky, Love for you has always been mucky! You don’t understand it, And it is just quite a misfit! You decide you don’t want this anymore, Your girlfriends call you a bore! And so when you’re lucky one day, You’ll find him standing at the doorway, His arms stretched wide, And there will be no place to hide! You’ll walk up to him, Hoping and praying to be grim, One look is what it will take, For things to be just great! You can’t turn away so soon baby, No you can’t even try lady! Because you still have a long way to go, For things to be just so! So the fate is sealed and it is decided, And you think it’s time to go to bed! Not so soon because you two haven’t spoken, But the ice seems to have been brok...

Looking for something to Look for!

“What is that one thing that you are looking for from life?” She asked him, hoping to find her own answer to the question that had been bothering her for quite some time. Seeking, searching, trying to find, in those long hours that she spent with herself, she could not find an answer. Or, perhaps, she found too many of them! For a while she was convinced it was Love. Yes, Love it is! Everyone needs it. So does she. It is the most powerful emotion in the world. A state of mind that has the ability to change the universe. It manifests itself in innumerable ways. Envy, when the love for that one person becomes overbearing and surpasses the clear vision of looking at people for who they are. Happiness, that feeling of exuberance that we get when we know that someone has touched our life and we have touched theirs. Yes, it has to be Love that she is looking for! Love is… Yes, she doesn’t know what Love is! And, how can she be looking for something that she does not know about! God, her p...
